The Obsessive Mind: The Energy of Worry

Performance anxiety within a public speaking context is based on worries about being noticeably nervous and losing control due to panic. Obsessive worry, or ruminating about upcoming challenges, or ruminating retrospectively with thoughts such as “did I say the right thing”, or “did I sound stupid” are common. This recycling energy to nowhere can be exhausting and can cause burnout and depression. There are two types of worry:

  1.  Recycled worry, which the sufferer leans is a mechanism for control, but really is a symptom of lack of control.
  2.  Worry, which is energy that can be channeled into productive energy.
