"Tip
of The Month Club" "Anxiety is Good for You: (More Interviews)" So said the front page article of Dec 5 Time Magazine. While this can be a true statement, it is science fiction to most anxiety sufferers. What the article is getting to is the reality that every human being has anxiety and stress. Learning to make this “energy” work for you can be a very productive process. You may want to consider doing this for your new year’s resolution! With social anxiety , the objective is to resolve the emotions of embarrassment, humiliation, shame, which are associated with autonomic hypersensitivity, and often the fear of being noticeably nervous as in blushing and sweating. Often anxiety results in avoidance of the challenge situation. The avoidance, along with the degree of internal discomfort, are the primary ways that the severity of the anxiety problem, which usually worsens with time, can be measured. For example, I work with countless individuals who have public speaking anxiety, who really do want to be in front of the group and countless individuals of all ages with selective mutism, who really desire to be verbal. In addition, when the individual avoids situations that he or she really desires to do, or should do, it becomes an investment in anger at a very deep, often non conscious level. This repressed and recycling anger further drives the obsessive worry and anxiety.
