"Blush Sweat & Tears
Clinical Proof that Pathological Blushing is Controllable

A Therapeutic Discussion with 4 Blushers"

In 2012 college student Brandon Thomas committed suicide because of blushing. His mother, Dawn Thomas said and I quote “One of the reasons he took this drastic measure is because it would raise awareness. He wanted his death to have an impact”.

Shortly after this tragedy MSNBC quoted Dr. Enrique Jadresic, a Chilean psychiatrist, whom MSNBC designated as the world’s expert in blushing, as saying and I quote “pathological blushing is an uncontrollable reaction triggered by an overactive nervous system, and that it can wear down self-esteem and even the will to live”.

I certainly agree with the Dr. that it can wear down self-esteem and the will to live, but I strongly disagree with his statement that it is an uncontrollable response. In fact, I believe that his general diagnostic and use of the term “uncontrollable” characterizes the medical communitys’, and certainly most of the mental health community’s misunderstanding of social anxiety in general, as well as the specific of Erythrophobia. The result of this misunderstanding is a dramatic void of effective treatment for this problem. In fact, the belief of “uncontrollable” greatly disempowers healing potential!

If you are concerned about the fear of being noticeably nervous due to facial blushing or hyper-hidrosis in performance scenarios such as formal public speaking, speaking in public in general, which can be a variation of selective mutism, interacting with authority figures, and social anxeity in general the following interview should be of interest to you.
